Jean Ann Kurth of Wilkesboro, our loving mother and friend, departed to be with her Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2019, at the age of 72. Jean was born Oct. 5, 1947, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Edward and Marjorie Moiles Kurth.
Jean was a hard-working mother of one who was extremely blessed to have had the opportunity to live and travel all around the country prior to having her son. Before settling in Wilkesboro with her son, she spent many of her years in the mid-Michigan area, where she graduated from Saginaw Valley State University with her bachelor of science in nursing degree in 1993.
She worked as an industrial chemist and a medical technologist, and finally found her calling as a critical care nurse. Her compassion and caring demeanor were recognized by her patients and peers. Her love for learning caused her to grow professionally, personally and spiritually, while her faith and love for the Lord became the foundation for her life.
She loved meeting and interacting with people, sharing testimonies from her life, and hearing others. In her spare time, she facilitated a few “worship workshops,” teaching, ministering and encouraging others to strengthen their relationships with the Lord. Her life’s example set a precedent for her son and others who encountered her.
In retirement, she enjoyed gardening, painting, photography, poetry, crafting, writing, “DIY” projects, traveling and taking trips with her son, and volunteering for various causes and organizations that were meaningful to her. Jean was passionate about fostering and caring for her many “fur babies,” her three cats, Missy, Cutie and Dusty, and, especially, her rescue dog, Max.
She will be dearly missed by her beloved son and best friend, James Kurth; her brother, Michael (Cathy) Kurth; many extended family members, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Edward H. (Carol) Kurth.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019, at The Gathering Church, 976 West Meadows Parkway, Moravian Falls, N.C. 28654. The Rev. Brad McClendon will officiate, with cremation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Wilkes.
