Dorothy Jefferson, 90, originally from Syracuse, New York, passed away in Raleigh, North Carolina on December 28th, 2020, after a long battle with serious health issues and complications caused by the Corona Virus.
Dorothy was born on July 18th, 1930, to Edward and Edythe Moore, in Syracuse New York.
After getting married to Aubrey Winslow, they had two children Cynthia and Brenda.
As a teenager, Dorothy was a performer. She was a tap dancer, stand-up comedian, and an animated drum majorette, in several marching bands. She also did theatrical voicing for a radio station. As an adult she did funny, delightful monologues, and performed in some local stage productions. Friends, and family affectionately called her, "The actress".
After landing a variety of jobs, Dorothy was an administrator for 14 years, at Salvation Army Day Care Centers; and then went on to work and retire from the Syracuse Housing Authority. She was hired as Director of Section 8, and then went on to be Director of Occupancy.
Dorothy is predeceased by her husband Roy Jefferson, her former spouse Aubrey Winslow; siblings Elizabeth Brown and Jesse Moore; step-children Anthony and Victor Rennell Jefferson.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters Cynthia and Bren Winslow; step-daughter Syvette Jefferson; two grandchildren, Toryona Hodge, and Ron Glass II, along with her granddaughter-in-law Charisse Flanagan; three great-grandchildren, Taj'ona McRae, Jamaicah and Jasmine Glass; siblings Rita Davis, Edward Moore, and Mary Ellen Santos; as well as other cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Anyone who knew her can attest to her feistiness, her humor, her many talents, her "directness", as well as her compassion, wisdom, and love of life. Her children adored her and enjoyed her as a mother growing up, and throughout their lives. She never gave up and was known for saying, "I'll/we'll just make it work".
