Emma Hubbartt passed away on October 13, 2021, at the age of 99, after bravely facing congestive heart failure for many weeks. Born on August 20, 1922 in Jacksonville, IL, she attended school in Jacksonville and Petersburg, IL, then completed elementary teachers’ training in Normal, IL. She married Army Airforce cadet, Gene Hubbartt (now deceased), in Bennetsville, SC during WWII. She travelled with Gene to live in Phoenix, AZ; several military bases in GA; Fort Walton, FL; Cocoa Beach, FL; Tampa, FL; Dreux, France; Savannah, GA; Clearwater, FL; and finally at their beautiful lake house in Inverness, FL.

Emma is survived by her daughter, Nancy Adams; son-in-law, Tom Adams; and four grandchildren and their families: Scott Gaskins and Victoria Zula and their son, Isaac; Susan and Steve Squires and their son, Austin; Freddie Sexton and Amelia Beonde and their children, Ellie, Olivia, Graham, and Ellis; and Margaret and Keegan DeWitt and their daughters, Larkin and Pippa.

Emma had an enduring friendship with her sister-in-law, Carole Knous of Petersburg, IL, and Carole’s daughters, Sherry Hofing and Carrie Oller and their families. She loved visits with her brother, Stanley Darr (now deceased) and his family in Texas, including his children, Arthur, Tom and Phyllis and their families. Emma cherished her dear friends in Florida: Michael Melvan, Peggy Densmore and her good neighbors on Aquarius Drive.

Emma was known for her beautiful oil paintings of outdoor scenes in Florida and Canada, where she traveled with her husband in their RV. She will be remembered for her love of the natural world, her large collection of orchids and ferns, and her deep affection for friends and family. A memorial service will be scheduled with Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg, IL.
