Judith Carrig

Mrs. Judith Carrig, 76, of Durham, NC passed away Monday morning, August 7, 2023, at her home. Mrs. Carrig lived in Durham most of her life. Born in Durham as Judy Ennis, she was the daughter of Jack and Kathryn Ennis, and was the wife of John M. Sawyer Sr until the 1990s.
 

Judy helped her family run Ennis Grocery on East Geer Street for many years. She also occasionally worked in credit and finance. Judy loved softball, and played on the Ennis Grocery team for many years. She loved the beach and moved to Florida in the late 1990s.

She returned to Durham in 2009. There she lived with her companion Mr. Gerald Fuller until her death. Judy loved her flowers and loved her small animals. She was also a gifted free hand artist. Life was not always easy or kind, but through it all she always remembered her children and grandchildren.

We will all miss her. Her surviving children are John M. Sawyer, Jr (wife Tonya) and Shannon Andrews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at Mount Hermon Baptist Church, 4511 Old NC 10, Durham, NC, 27705. Memorial contributions can be made to Mount Hermon Baptist Church.
