Julian H. Ferguson, Sr., of Durham, NC, passed away on June 15th after a tough battle with Dementia.
Julian was born on April 24, 1938, to Walter Lee and Alice Ferguson in Durham, NC. He worked at Duke University for 42 years and retired in 2000. Julian was a member of Leesville Road Baptist Church.
Julian was a big sports fanatic. He supported his children and grandchildren in playing sports. If he wasn’t coaching them, he was in the stands cheering them on. He was also a huge Duke fan. In the fall and winter, you always knew where he would be or what he would be doing—attending or watching the Duke basketball or football games with his family and friends. He followed them all over.
Julian is predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Dub, Tom, James, and Joe; his son, Holt; and his granddaughter, Jenna. He is survived by his wife, Lois Ferguson; his brother, Delmus Ferguson; his 6 children, Mary (Nicky) Clayton, Teresa (Jeff) Mink, Suzanne Ferguson, David Howerton, Jason Howerton, and Steve (Wendy) Howerton; his 10 grandchildren, Stacy (Brandon), Dustin (Kayleigh), Drew, Shane, Alicia (Brandon), Zach, Kristen, Justin, Kacey, and Greyson; and 8 great-grandchildren, Cooper, Tanner, Avereigh, Axel, Ava, Kinsley, Julian, and Levi.
The services will be held on Monday, June 20th, at Leesville Road Baptist Church (6211 Leesville Road, Durham, NC 27703). Visitation will begin at 6:00 PM and Memorial Service will begin at 7:00 PM.
