Lesley James Durham was born March 24, 1939, in Pender County to the late Charles E. Durham, Sr and the late Christine Newkirk Durham. Lesley attended Raleigh, NC Public Schools. Many years ago Lesley moved up north and lived in New Jersey for nearly 30 years prior to returning to North Carolina to live.
Lesley was a cool person and a pretty good pool shooter. Lesley was a fun loving brother and could keep you laughing continuously as you engage in a conversation with him. He had an elephant memory, better than mine, Lesley loved his family very much and often talked about doing great things for us.
Preceded him in death, his parents, Charles E. Durham, Sr. and Christine N. Durham; three brothers, Charles E. Durham, Jr., Joseph Durham and Rudolph Durham; one sister, Shirley Durham.
Lesley leaves to cherish great memories to his siblings, Rogenia D. Hogan, Lugenia Durham, Christine D. Heyward, Roy L. Durham, Sr. (Dorothy), William R. Durham, Maxine D. Young (Charles), and Rebecca D. Woodard.
Lesley loved music, his favorite radio station was “102.9” which he listened to it every day and he wanted it played loud. Sometimes while visiting him he would ask me to do something for him, and I would say sure, Lesley would ask me to go over to the radio and look for the second dial from the left and turn it up and of course I did but barely, I would ask “how is that? Is it loud enough” sometimes he would say just a little more. Lesley also loved to sing and he had a nice voice for singing, one of his favorite songs was, “Swing Low Sweet Chariot”.
Lesley will be missed beyond measure by his siblings and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
