Mary was called home to help God on May 1st 2023. Mary was born April 11 1936 in Oklahoma City to the late Orville James McGinnis “OJ” and Evelyn Rose McGinnis. She is survived by her son Gregory Anderson Murphy and his wife Tonya Lannel Murphy of Raleigh NC. Her Daughter Megan Elizabeth Murphy of Laguna Hills CA. Mary went to Lorretto Heights College in Denver CO. Competing on the Equestrian Team, giving her a lifelong love of horses. She graduated with a degree in Speech and Drama. She then went to the convent becoming a Nun and teaching high school English in Denver. After leaving the convent she met and married the late Percy Anderson Murphy. They traveled the United States with Percy’s job, landing her in Lexington KY. There she became actively involved in the Thoroughbred horse industry. She was a writer for the Blood horse magazine for years finally becoming the vice president of the Kentucky Alcoholism Council. She was an active member of AA celebrating 46 years of sobriety upon her death. In 1990 she moved to Arizona meeting and marrying her late husband David Sine, a Living treasure of the Yavapai Apache Indian reservation. She made Native American Jewelry and painted the beauty of Arizona. She was active on the reservation in the field of addiction. Upon David’s death she moved East to Raleigh NC to be with her children Gregory and Megan. She settled in feeding the local birds and squirrels at her home. She loved butterflies and dragon flies. She was affectionately called “Cookie” by those that knew her. She was a feisty lady offering her opinion whether you wanted to hear it or not. She loved the Lord and is probably offering her opinion to God whether he wants to hear it or not!! Greg and I hope you are painting the beauty of heaven and keeping everyone in line.
