Obituary

Terri Lynn Clarke, 69, passed away peacefully at her home at The Addison of Durham in Durham North Carolina on May 2nd, 2022.

A former resident of Raleigh and Holly Springs, Terri began her life in Atlantic City New Jersey, where she was born to George Robert Clarke Jr., and Dorothy (Dixon) Clarke in 1953. As the child of a U.S. Navy family, Terri grew up living on various Naval bases in the Eastern United States. She attended schools in the states of Connecticut, Maine, Ohio, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, and finally in New Jersey, where she received her degree in political science. Terri spent the first half of her life living in New Jersey, where she worked primarily in the retail industry, while simultaneously working with and volunteering at the local Catholic Parish in her community. She eventually migrated to California in the early 1990’s with her family, where she lived before relocating with the family to North Carolina in the early 2000’s.

Terri lived an exemplary life of devotion to God, her family, her church, and to the many close friends that she made throughout her life. She never married nor did she have any children of her own. However, she was instrumental in the rearing of her younger sisters, nieces and nephews. Terri demonstrated an enormous amount love, patience, and tolerance in her interactions with each new generation of young family members that lovingly referred to her as Aunt Terri. Everyone loved Aunt Terri, who never said no when asked to babysit, and who made sure that her nephews and nieces arrived at school safely every day. Terri was a strong, beloved, and constant presence in the lives of her loved ones. She was greatly depended upon, always reliable, and endlessly faithful to her family.

As a devout practitioner of the Catholic faith, Terri spent much of her life assisting the church whenever and wherever they needed her, including teaching Sunday School and Catechism classes at her local church. She was a strong and faithful Christian who believed in God, his son Jesus Christ, and in the teachings of the Catholic Church. Terri lived a life that was filled with sacrifice and service. She walked in faith, practiced, and demonstrated her religious beliefs, and continued to serve others until the end of her life. She is and will always be greatly missed by her family, and by all of those who knew and loved her.

Terri is preceded in death by her father George Robert Clarke Jr., her mother Dorothy (Dixon) Clarke, and her sister Robin Jo (Clarke) McCathan. She is survived by her sisters Collette (Clarke) Ferguson of Valley Springs CA, Mellonie (Clarke) Moore of Holly Springs NC, Stephany Clarke of New London CT, Jamie Jo Clarke of Norfolk VA, Brother-In-Laws Chris Ferguson of Valley Springs CA, Jerome McCathan of Sanford NC, Reggie Moore of Holly Springs NC, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, loving cousins, relatives, and friends, all of whom will love and miss her forever.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony in Terri’s honor will be announced.
